Closed Floor Plans are Making a Comeback in 2023 Design

Say whaaaat?

Interior design trends are always evolving, and 2023 is no exception. This year, you’ll see… so ‘they’ say… a resurgence of closed floor plans in homes and apartments. Since hip huggers, crop tops, flares, and clogs are back on the scene, we really shouldn’t be surprised.

While open floor plans have been popular for several years, the trend is shifting towards more defined spaces. And here’s why:

Functionality

One of the main reasons people are gravitating towards closed floor plans is their functionality. With separate rooms, it’s easier to create dedicated spaces for different activities, such as a home office or workout room. As a bonus, closed floor plans also provide a better flow for hosting guests, as it allows for defined entertaining spaces.

Coziness & Privacy

With defined spaces, it’s easier to create a sense of warmth and intimacy in a home. Not to mention family members can be in the same home without feeling like they’re on top of each other. More rooms allow for a bit more privacy and separation, which some families are very much looking forward to. (This can be especially important during colder months when people are spending more time indoors.)

Creative Design Choices

With defined spaces, it’s easier to incorporate unique design elements that can make a space feel more personalized and intentional. You’re not bound to using the same “vibe” in a huge space. Instead you can have a little fun and get creative with your design choices in each room. For example, you might use wallpaper to create a statement wall in a bedroom or add a bold lighting fixture to a dining room. Or perhaps you’ll try a bold color in a living room, while keeping your kitchen more neutral. The possibilities are endless.

We’ll be curious to see if this design trend actually manifests itself in 2023!
