Moving is always a little chaotic, but moving with pets can just add another level.  Want to make the move with as little stress on you and your fur babies as possible?  We’ve got a few tips to keep things running smoothly.

Prep an Overnight Kit.  Just like you pack one for yourself and your kids, have an overnight kit when moving with pets as well.  Include the necessities like bowls, food, toys, leashes, etc, and anything else to keep them happy and cared for in the first few days after the move.

Talk to your Vet.   Alert your vet that you’re moving and get a copy of your pets medical records. They may also be able to give you a recommendation for a new vet close to your new home.

Update their tags.  If you are moving with pets like dogs or cats, you’ll want to update the address on their collar tags.  You’ll want to have your updated information on them in case something happens during or shortly after the move.

Get a sitter for moving day.  Our pets are kind of like our kids – except they may have even less understanding of what’s going on.  Leaving them with a friend instead of having them on-site with all the hectic moving boxes and friends and cars is often a good idea.

Bring treats.  Never underestimate the power of treats and favorite toys when moving with pets.  Try to keep a sense of normalcy for them – have them ride in your car on the way to the new house, and keep some treats in your pocket to reward them even for more mundane or normal commands.   They are also trying to get acclimated to a new place, and as much you try, you won’t be able to explain to them what’s happening.

We hope this helps if you’re moving with pets!  And if you’re still looking for the perfect home for you and your four-legged friend, give us a call!  We’re a Christian Mortgage Lender that values the same things you do – faith and family.  We’d love to help!
