You prayed. You planned. You saved.
And still—the house fell through. The appraisal came in low. Your dream neighborhood slipped out of reach. Or maybe, the lender ghosted you right before closing. (We’ve unfortunately seen this happen to multiple of our clients!)
When the home buying process doesn’t go as expected, it can feel like the ground beneath your feet is shifting. This isn’t just about square footage or good school districts—it’s about the deep longing for stability, rootedness, and a sense of home. And when that longing is delayed or denied, it’s easy to question what God is doing.
Here are five faith-filled reminders from Christian leaders who have wrestled with trust in their own journeys—and found God faithful. We hope these bring you a sliver of hope in a frustrating time.
1. “God is God, and since He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.”
— Elisabeth Elliot
Elisabeth Elliot, who endured the unimaginable loss of her husband on the mission field, understood what it meant to walk in the dark with God. Her words remind us that God’s will often transcends our understanding—but never our good.
Maybe the deal fell through not because something’s wrong, but because God is protecting or redirecting you. He is not absent. He is orchestrating.
2. “Faith is believing in advance what will only make sense in reverse.”
— Philip Yancey
It’s tempting to view a failed home purchase as a mistake or missed opportunity. But what if it’s a breadcrumb on a bigger path that hasn’t yet revealed itself?
3. “To the child of God, there is no such thing as an accident. He travels an appointed way.”
— A.W. Tozer
Tozer cuts through our doubts with this bold truth: God’s sovereignty is not limited to “spiritual things.” It covers mortgages, inspections, credit scores, and timing.
Even delays and disappointments are part of the “appointed way.” That means you’re not off track.
4. “God doesn’t always give us answers. He gives us Himself.”
— Lysa TerKeurst
When our questions about “Why did this happen?” go unanswered, it’s not because God is indifferent—it’s because He’s offering something better: His presence.
5. “God’s will is not an itinerary. It’s an attitude.”
— Louie Giglio
We often approach God’s will like a GPS: “Just tell me the next turn, and I’ll go.” But Louie Giglio challenges us to see it differently. God’s will is less about a specific address and more about a surrendered heart.
What matters more than where you live is how you trust. Even in limbo, you can live with joy, patience, and expectancy.
Take heart: Your journey isn’t off course.
