Design trends can be fleeting – in one month and out the next. But often it’s interesting to see what’s “trending”, just for our own curiosities. We put together a quick look at what’s in and what’s out in 2022. Some things will probably make you laugh, and some things will make you nod your head in agreement. Here’s the lowdown on what’s hot or not this year… supposedly…

What’s In:

  • Shades of Brown. Gray had been our close friend for the last decade or so, but chocolate browns and camels are making a comeback.
  • Objects & Textures Inspired by Nature. Stoneware, terracotta, and marble to name a few. With all the time spent indoors because of the pandemic (and recently because of winter), we’re craving nature more than ever in our indoor spaces.
  • Curved Furniture. The modern straight lines still exist, but people are getting more playful and looking for “warm and inviting” when picking out furniture.
  • Leather Furniture & Upholstery.
  • The “More is More” Look. Seems the pendulum is swinging back a bit from the minimalism trend. Patterns and wallpapers are making a comeback.

What’s Out:

  • All-White Everything. The Studio McGee team may need to revamp their signature look.
  • Open Floor Plans. This one is surprising to us, as we still hear people wanting open floor plans in their new homes. Apparently a call to private, quiet spaces has brought about a shift in the floor plan tide.
  • Boxy Sofas. Apparently the square-armed sofas are retiring.

We hope some of these were fun to see and think about as you look for your new home!
