A lack of travel and gathering over the last 12 months has allowed many of us to rethink our family traditions…perhaps doing away with some or adding some new ones. Easter is just around the corner and maybe this is the time for you to celebrate in a new way or create a new family tradition. We’ve tried to put together a few ideas to get you started!
Find a NEW Easter movie – there are a number of good Easter movies that celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. Find one or two you haven’t seen and watch them with the family. You’ll likely find them on one of your streaming services or available for rental or purchase.
-
- The Greatest Story Ever Told – 1965 – Perhaps you’ve never seen this classic. Not short, but a grand tradition.
- The Passion of the Christ – 2004 – NOT for the faint of heart. Very graphic and powerful. Probably not for children.
- Ben Hur – 1959 OR 2016 – See the academy award winner from the 50s with Charlton Heston or the remake from a few years ago.
- Risen – 2016 – The resurrection story told from the perspective of a Roman soldier, starring Joseph Fiennes.
- I Can Only Imagine – 2018 – While not specifically Easter, it is a faith based redemption story about the lead singer of the popular Christian band, Mercy Me. Powerful and compelling.
- NEW – Resurrection – 2021 – Debuted on March 27 from Discovery+ and only available there (for now). If you have access to this service, you can begin a new tradition this year with many other families seeing it for the first time. This is a life of Christ movie, from Roma Downey, starting at the point of Christ’s trials, until his resurrection.
Bake Hot Cross Buns – the tradition is said to date back to a 12th century Monk who was inspired to mark his rolls with a cross on Good Friday. Many recipes abound online, and this can be a delicious and faith affirming treat.
Attend a Sunrise Service – this tradition also has date far in the past…try 1732! This tradition marks the memory of the women going to the empty tomb at the break of day and finding Jesus missing. You can find a local church hosting a service, or perhaps do one yourself near to your home with something as simple as a few praise songs and a prayer as a family.
All of us at United Faith Mortgage wish you a blessed Holy Week and Easter Sunday and pray that you find a way to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord in a meaningful way for your family. He Is Risen!
