We all need to spring clean. So this year, to encourage your cleaning attitude, we’ll share some cleaning chores that will make you feel better about your living space and can also add value to your house.
- Decluttering can add value to your home (because there’s more home to see). Clear out things you don’t use: furniture, books, clothing, toys, shoes, DVDs, tools, anything you haven’t touched in the last several years. Then sell it (money in your pocket), donate it (tax write off), shred it (you don’t need those tax documents from 1998) or trash it (we’re probably all sitting on some things in this category).
- It’s also amazing what shelving and organizers can do for a home. Install some shelving and organizers into your basements, garages, spare rooms, closets, pantries and small spaces, and you’ll be amazed at how it will transform your home and potentially get you a higher offer.
- Clean Your Floors. Get the carpets professionally cleaned, and then cut out wearing shoes inside until the home is sold. Then, get a nice floor disinfectant for the wood and tile floors.
- Wash Windows. Wash your windows, inside and out. Check for leaks or cracks and either caulk the leaks, have the windows reglazed or get needed repairs. Clean, leak free windows let light in, keep cold and hot out and vastly improve the sell value of your home.
You paid good money for that house. Spending just a little time and money will make sure you get the maximum amount back out of it.
