Have you been looking into non-toxic cleaners but also double checking your bank account?  Yeah, me too.  Buying clean products, especially non-toxic cleaners and cosmetics, seems to have taken the health and home worlds by storm.  But we’re all busy people, and we don’t always have extra cash to throw at fancy certified products. So what’s a girl to do?  These little DIY cleaners are easy on your budget, require minimal ingredients – and you know everything that’s going in them.

Hand Soap:

  • Castile Soap
  • Purified Water
  • Essential Oils (optional)
  • Oil (optional… I’ve seen people use olive, jojoba, or almond to make it moisturizing!)

Mix equal parts Castile soap and purified water in a soap dispenser.  You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for scents and benefits – I like tea tree oil, for its anti-microbial properties.  If you decide to add oil, use about 1 tablespoon.  Keep in mind that oil and water separate, so you’ll have to shake before use!

Household Cleaning Spray:

  • White Vinegar
  • Purified Water
  • Lemon (essential oil, or add lemon rind and let soak for a few days before using.)

Mix equal parts vinegar and water, and add a few drops of essential oil or infuse with your lemon rind.  This just adds a little extra clean scent – my mother used to use just vinegar and water all the time. Remarkably, it even works on the mirror.  Easy and probably the cheapest cleaner you’ll ever use.

Glass Cleaner:

  • 2 cups water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup rubbing alcohol
  • Essential oil (optional)

If you like the idea of the vinegar cleaner above but want something a little stronger for glass, try mixing in the ratios above.  You swap out a little vinegar for rubbing alcohol, and can still scent it however you’d like. Be a bit more careful with this solution though, since rubbing alcohol isn’t as natural and could be a mild irritant if you (or your kids!) are sensitive.

And if you like to make things cute, check out these amber glass reusable spray bottles like the ones pictured above.  They’d be darling with some chalk labels.

Happy cleaning!  And if you’re looking for the perfect house (just enough space, but not too much to clean, am I right?) give us a call!  We’re a Christian Mortgage Lender, and we’d love to help you and your family.

Best,
