If you live in a city that feels like it’s bursting at the seams, you’d be surprised to find out that the number people moving homes has been declining in recent years

According to research done by The New York Times, “this trend is partly a reflection of patterns among millennials as they came of age… It is also a continued effect of the Great Recession. Slowdowns in the housing and job markets and delays in marriage and childbearing pushed their relocation rates down substantially.”

However…

Ten cities have gone against the grain and have seen substantial population growth. Some of them you may have heard of, others maybe not. Here’s a spoiler — If this were a competition, Texas would take the cake.

  • Frisco, TX
  • Meridian, ID
  • McKinney, TX
  • Sugar Land, TX
  • Kent, WA
  • Murfreesboro, TN
  • Round Rock, TX
  • Pearland, TX
  • Irvine, CA
  • Bend, OR
