The air has that fall crispness to it that always lights me up! I love fall, and I’m always looking for creative ideas to use in my home to match the season. Here’s a few of our favorite
A Simmer Pot: Put a medium saucepan of water on the stove, set to medium-low. Throw in a few ingredients and let the scent totally refresh your house! There’s all kinds of ideas out there, but if you want to make your house smell like fall, here’s a few combinations that are perfect.
Cinnamon Citrus:
- 2/3 drops vanilla
- Orange slices
- Cinnamon sticks
- Cloves
- Mulling Spice tea bags (1 or 2)
Fresh and Clean:
- Rosemary
- Vanilla
- Lemon
- Ginger
And if you’re a little eager for Christmas… don’t worry, most of us are too! Here’s a recipe from Half Baked Harvest that will bring that holiday cheer to the air.
Hang Herb Wreaths: You know how a Christmas tree can make your home smell amazing? Well, if you want your house to smell like fall, I like to use Rosemary and Eucalyptus. Make small bundles, put some in a cute jar or vase, or tie them into little wreaths and hang them on a few doors with twine! You can buy small rings for wreaths at any craft store – and these not only smell great, they look darling too.
Get Rid of Weird Food Smells, Naturally! Does your garbage disposal smell funny? Throw some white vinegar and lemon peel chunks in an ice tray and freeze. When the sink gets funky, toss 2 in the garbage disposal and turn it on until they are gone. This cleans and eliminates odors! If the kitchen tends to be a problem area for your home, try wiping out the inside of the trash cans and the fridge. I usually add a candle on the windowsill in my kitchen too!
Throw open the windows! Mother nature does it best – when it’s sunny and warm enough on those perfect fall days, open up your windows and let your house air out a bit before winter. Not only will your house smell like fall from those crunchy leaf piles outside, it also brings in fresh air and lowers bacteria and germs in your house. Perfect!
