We Americans like to ignore the fact that our Christmas day meal looks an awful lot like Thanksgiving. Potatoes, rolls, sweet potato casserole, some vegetables slathered in butter, maybe some mac ‘n cheese, or a pie…

But some brave independent souls out there are starting to realize we don’t have to have the same meal twice in a 30-day time period. Here are three different meal ideas to mix up your Christmas family lunch/dinner:

  • Chili / Soup (easy, and super cozy). Instead of hustling on Christmas day, make chilis and soups ahead of time, and load up the table still with all your favorite rolls, breads, and toppings.
  • Steak and/or Lobster (more effort, but oh-so-good). If you can swing it and you actually want to handle the prepwork involved, try a steak and lobster dinner. You can pretty much still have all your other sides, but let’s be honest – the meat just took a turn for the best.
  • Taco Bout Christmas Dinner (medium effort, and flavor out of this world). Oh yeah. Tacos. But we’re not talking about the Taco Bell packet tacos. Try some beer-braised brisket in ancho chilies, or a spicy shredded chicken. It’s easy to line up for the family, and it’s often loved by all.

No matter what meal your family gathers around, we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas together!
